Finished dragon and other stuff

Hi Guy's,

It's been months since my last post. I am sorry but life has been very distracting. I have finished the Dragon and done a few other pieces but have been working more on my spirituality and psychic development than creating artistic pieces and I have also started doing a Youth Workers Course through tafe so I am all over the place. Oh and I have been hand rearing a Cockatiel so sleep has been all over the place. I got him at 13 days old and he is still being hand fed 3 times a day. I look forward to the day when he has totally weaned himself. He is such a smooch and loves cuddles and scratches. His name is Jasper and while we do not know if it is a he or a she I know that I love having him in my life. He is one crazy bird. LOL

So here are the finished pictures of the Dragon

So guy's I will try to post on a more regular basis and when I get more work done I will let you know.

Love and Hugs

Hi Guys,

Sorry it has been such a long tme between posts. I have been in a bit of a funk and have been working on other spiritual things to get myself out of it. Anyway I have been busy on the last weeks with a arts class I have been teaching coming to an end and getting this mega Dragon done for a very close friends 50th birthday. I miss the birthday deadline but he does not care as he has seen pics of the progress so far and is simply blown away by what I have created.

To be totally honest so am I.

I never thought I could create somewthing so detailed and lfelike( if there is such a thing).

Anyway the spechs are hight 65cm, width 95cm Apoxie scultpt over an aliminium armature base on a wooden candle stick. The teeth and some of the horns are made from Transluscent Prosculpt Polymer Clay and the rest from Apoxie sculpt. I have used nearly 3 x 4lb tubs of Apoxie for this sculpture.

I have been using The Dragon Bust Tutorial by Julianne Sizemore as a guide and reference plus searched the net for images of different dragons to figure out what I wanted to do. Not that has really done much as this is one purely from my imagination and is very serpent like in my eyes.

Okay the basic form is finished and now I can start adding colour. Firstly a black and white base coat.

And then some Antique Copper Metallic paint mixed with Metallic Bright Red and Sequin Black for the back and Pearl White with Red Irridescent covering for the front of the wings and the belly. I have yet to decide what colour to do the face ad the eyes. But I like the idea of going from light to dark for the face. Might play with that later.

I will add more pictures as I get closer to finishing which has to be by Friday as that is when we are handing it over to the new owner.

Take care

Painting and other work

Hi All, I have been very quiet and not getting as much done as I would like but I have managed to nearly finish a painting I had started last year that is being purchased by a friend for her Mother. It is a Bird of Paradise on a dark background and so far the consensus is that it looks good with the dark green background as it make the vibrant colours of the flower stand out. I am just waiting for my girlfriend to get back to me and if she is happy it is off to the framers and then off to her. Another job completed. I am also working on a sculpt for my daughters boyfriends mother. He is looking good but going very slowly.
I am teaching at the school twice a week now and hopefully the kids are getting as much out of the class as I am. I will try to get some pictures to post of the kids and their progress.

I am getting back into the swing of things and will hopefully have more work to show off and finish some UFO's too. The dragon bust is calling me still and I need to figure out how I am going to do his spines, spikes and teeth. I want something that will last and be very strong. I want to do more paintings and feel the urge to try a landscape. I will keep you all posted on that venture.
Take care and let me know what you think of both the pieces I am working on. It's nice to have some feedback on my work.
Love and hugs

Hi Gys, sorry its been so long since I posted. Have been busy with a few projects and heaps of teaching. I have 2 classes now with one sculpt class at the High school my kids go to. I am teaching 5 year 11 kids how to sculpt a spoon doll but we have started with Pods first off and then will move to the spoon doll sculpts after. I will take some pictures in the next few weeks of the kids and what they are making.
Secondly I am trying to teach beading to a group of CWA women. It was a dificult day yesterday as there was a very mixed age group and level of experience with the group of 8 I was teaching. Some got it by the end of the day but I can see the next class which is in 3 weeks will need alot of attention to make sure they all get their understanding and are able to complete the beaded bears they are making.

I have done a bit more work on the dragon bust with adding the rice paper wings with 8 layers of paper on them and they are so hard but almost transperant as I used paverpol to glue the layers together. I have also added some paper clay to the head to begin shapping it and have decided to use the teeth I have already for the dragon instead of making my own. I have made the wire armature for the arms stronger using the thicker wire and will finalise them soon with a layer of foil and florist tape for the clay to adhere to. I think it will look great when finished.
Hopefully I will blog more often but with life being so busy I will try to fit it all in. I will not promise too much.
Take care and love each other.

Okay here are the basics for the butterfly with a wire wrapped body and a stuffed head that needs needle sculpting. I plan to have very big bobbly eyes like they have in real life and maybe the proboscus but I am not sure about that yet. And he / she needs huge antenae to balance it all. I will play with more colouration on the wings once I can get to the shops to get some more Metallic Sapphire Blue paint. The legs will be very long and I think this will be a standing butterfly or even one that is placed on a giant flower. Might get the ball on a stick finished to pose this one.

Continuation of Dragon Bust

I have finally figured out how to make the chest plates using polystyrene hearts cut in half and quarters, shaved off at the back and shaped into a cup then glued onto the chest with craft glue that does not melt the polystyrene. It looks good and then I covered the whole area with paper clay and sculpted the plates into the shapes I wanted. Overall I am please with the look and now I have to remake the arms to be stronger and more in proportion with the rest of the body, the half that we can see that is.
Then it is onto the first rice paper cover for the wings and I will start making the horns and spines for the back ridge and the face shape. I have yet to decide wether to use dolls eyes or paint them on. I want it to be very statling and mesmerising so I will see what I want. Might get some special dolls eye to put in place if I can find what I want with the slit pupil and right colouring. That means I will have to decide what colours I want him to be and I am not sure if I am that far in my planing.
I am also in the middle of making a big butterfly with a wire wrapped body. I have the wings painted and the body under wrapping done and am using a spare head to see if this will work. Will post pics in a few days of how it is progressing.

Chair Nearly Finished

Well its almost done. I have played and played and played with this one. Darkened and then lightened and finally settled on this colour. I have just to add the final part oof the blingage with a layer of glitter varnish and it is done.
This has been alot of fun and turned out better then I had hoped. Now all I need is a 60 plus cm BJD to sit on the chair. That is on my wish list next.
